Are You A Promise Keeper?

Are You A Promise Keeper?

Promise Keeper

People who have been around me know that I love the dictionary. Why? Because it is filled with some dynamic words that I can throw around from time to time to impress people {insert giggle}. Seriously, I love learning knew and exciting words because it increases my knowledge and opens my eyes to so much around me. In fact, at times, I am prone to make up my own words, like Writeous! Yes, I receive the Word of the Day from my Dictionary app on my Android device (in case you were wondering).

So, naturally, I feel the need to advise you that Merriam Webster defines Promise as, “A commitment by someone to do or not do something.” So, a promise can work in both ways, however, for this post, I would like to focus on the most popular aspect of the promise, making a vow, pledge or obligation to someone.

When we think of a promise, many of us have let them roll off our lips with absolutely no intention of fulfilling them. We say them because they seem appropriate at the time, we have good intentions or we simply want to rid ourselves of that person seeking our support (not necessarily in a mean way).

But, in order to be a woman or man of honor (I spoke about that here), we mustn’t make any promises that we do not plan on keeping as people and the world are counting on us. Yes, every choice we make will impact the lives of someone else which will ultimately impact our world.

Here are five questions to consider before you part your lips to let the words, “I promise” flow out:

1. Can I really fulfill the need of the promise I am making?
2. Am I dedicated enough to go above and beyond to meet the need of those I have promised?
3. Do I really respect those people who make promises and never keep them? Do I desire to be like them?
4. Do I often make excuses to get out of a promise?
5. Do I believe that all promises, big or small are important?

Before we make a promise to someone or even ourselves, we must first believe that we can satisfy the requested need. We must be willing to be a Promise Keeper. We have to, “Keep every promise WE make and only make promises WE can keep.”

Question: “Are you a Promise Keeper if not, maybe you are a Promise Seeker? I’ve been a little of both!

I am a promise keeper; when I am asked to do something I do/when I say I am going to do something I do it; but don’t turn around and ask me if I did it (if I am unable to do it I will let you know). ijs

Oh yes! You most certainly are. I bet you hold the record for NEVER breaking a promise! People should already know that if you (we) said we are going to do it, it is DONE.

Thanks Boo for stopping by AND commenting! Yeah Buddy!

People love to come ask me “can you do me a favor?” And I always say “depends on the favor” – I don’t like agreeing to things I can’t fulfill or feel uncomfortable doing so. I am definitely someone that keeps my promises, even if I say “let’s meet at 3PM @ X” – I’ll be thurr. 😛 Great topic love and have a great one Yulunda!! -Iva

I try to be a promise keeper but i need to do better. Especially with my daughter. I feel so bad when i end up renigging on something I’ve told here (usually because something comes up with the little one) definitely something to think about!

    Thanks sis!

Yes, we must Stop, Think and Follow through if we say we are going to do something, no matter how big or small.
