I don’t know about you, but, I was exacerbated by all of the hype happening in our country leading up to, “The Fight of the Century.” Yes, the one that people had been anticipating for five year’s, the one that broke the cable network servers and broke records in many history books (I guess).
Now, that we are on the back-end of the entertainment mega event of 2015, we all must pause, reflect and resolve within ourselves that it was nothing but hype and most of the country (and world I’m sure) became the hype men and women to single handedly make two men richer!
Yes, they got me too and no, I cannot use the excuse that I would like to use because the truth is, I fell for all of the hype because it felt good as it helped to give me a focus on something else besides the horrible things happening around me – – – a break from reality.
But, I bet you they won’t get me a second time. Why, because I have realized that there are so many other significant things that I must strategically focus my energy on. I mean really, I was tired from the build up and anticipation as well as all of the trash talking that took place prior to Saturday night.
So, today, I would like to encourage you as I encourage myself that we mustn’t allow ourselves to get so engrossed in something just because it is the ‘popular’ and ‘hottest’ thing happening. It is only hype.
In life, it is so easy to be persuaded to follow the crowd. It is that same crowd that will most likely teach you the lesson of the blind leading the blind as you recognize that it was one of the blind men who was able to build up so much hype that the entire crowd started to believe they can see until we all were snared in a trap.
So, how can you avoid falling for all of the hype to later realize that the hype has led to heartache/financial hurt? Here are a few ways:
1. Understand that anything that has everyone one’s attention and everyone is willing to be a part of may be hype.
2. Understand that it really is okay to be set apart in your thinking and those things you choose to support. Stand your ground and go against the crowd of blind men.
3. Do not allow one thing or event to consume you, your money, your support and your resources without really thinking about your actions or motives or the end result.
I’m glad it only cost me $100.00 to learn a new lesson as I am confident it may have cost so much more for many.
