You’re a Survivor! Lessons from Destiny’s Child

As a survivor, one thing I know for certain, you must “Let it go!.” In other words, being bitter, jealous, angry, hateful, and mean is only going to destroy you as an individual. Experience it for a while, but do not set up camp at Pity Pointe.  You are a survivor!

If you’ve ever had to cut your ties with a person, job, church, or group of individuals, bad mouthing them is more of a reflection of you more so than them. I am talking about  an all out verbal assault and attack on someone’s character (I know a few people like this). It will ultimately come back on you and make you seem very petty, tacky and simply unprofessional. You need to go into survivor mode and learn the lesson from the situation and how it can and will make you a better person. And, I’m not saying it is easy but, it is possible with much practice, determination, and willingness to do/be better.

Understand that you need to at times let those individuals know exactly how you feel in a tactful and honorable manner as a survivor and move on. By all means, do not become consumed with getting even — just keep pressing and surviving. I mean listen, we all will have a few things to say about people, some chatter here and there, that is expected as we get frustrated. But, you must also be prepared to say those things to someone’s face directly if and when necessary, which is part of owning your words and actions. Some call it maturity. #Bloop

Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child went through a very tumultuous time during their break-up with two of the group members. What they decided to do was to create a ‘hit’ song to express how they felt one good time and then, they pushed on to bigger and better.

These particular lyrics of the song are inspiring in and of themselves…

I’m wishin’ you the best. Pray that you are blessed
Bring much success, no stress, and lots of happiness.
(I’m better than that)
I’m not gon blast you on the radio.
(I’m better than that)
I’m not gon lie on you and your family oh.
(I’m better than that)
I’m not gon hate on you in the magazines.
(‘m better than that)
I’m not gon compromise my Christianity.
(I’m better than that)
You know I’m not gon diss you on the internet.
Cause my mama taught me better than that.

I’m a survivor (What?)
I’m not gon give up (What?)
I’m not gon stop (What?)
I’m gon work harder (What?)

And, you really should listen to the entire song with different ears (if you’ve rocked it before) to see what lessons you get from it. And then, share some insight in the comments below.

Move forward in RIGHTeousness XOXO♥
