Yulunda’s Summer Reading Recommendations

Reading is FUNdamental and, the library is your friend! Reading helps us to escape reality and allows you to plant yourself into any environment. Reading is peaceful and is one tried and true way to to reduce stress, become more educated, and expand your thinking beyond your expectation.

Though I cannot read as often as I use to prior to family, work, and other life demands, I have made sure that I get in at least one book a month and, sometimes two. In fact, in the last two month’s, I’ve had an opportunity to read a little more and the books I’ve read are simply dynamic in so many ways.

So, today, let me share with you some of these great reads and, I encourage you to use wisdom as you seek to read or listen to them. Audible and Amazon are you friend and offer 30-day trials ;-). I PROMISE YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Rework – “Most business books give you the same old advice: Write a business plan, study the competition, seek investors, yadda yadda. If you’re looking for a book like that, put this one back on the shelf.” ~Amazon.com

“Rework shows you a better, faster, easier way to succeed in business. Read it and you’ll know why plans are actually harmful, why you don’t need outside investors, and why you’re better off ignoring the competition. The truth is, you need less than you think. You don’t need to be a workaholic. You don’t need to staff up. You don’t need to waste time on paperwork or meetings. You don’t even need an office. Those are all just excuses.” ~Amazon.com

Essentialsim: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less – By forcing us to apply a more selective criteria for what is Essential, the disciplined pursuit of less empowers us to reclaim control of our own choices about where to spend our precious time and energy – instead of giving others the implicit permission to choose for us.Essentialism is not one more thing – it’s a whole new way of doing everything. It’s about doing less, but better, in every area of our lives. Essentialism is a movement whose time has come. Audible.com

Left for Dead – Ebony Canion is no stranger to adversity. In fact, her countless traumatic experiences in her childhood and adulthood have molded her to be strong, resilient, and faithful, in short–a survivor. ~Amazon.com

But on that fateful day, June 30, 2012, her strength was tested more than ever before. Run over, then dragged for over two hundred feet, Ebony Canion was left for dead. She sustained multiple serious injuries and was in a coma for almost two months. But keeping with the pattern of her life, Ebony’s spirit of faithfulness was bent but never broken. And it was then, healing in the hospital, that Ebony decided to share her story with the world. ~Amazon.com

The Power of Broke – “Daymond John has been practicing the power of broke ever since he started selling his home-sewn t-shirts on the streets of Queens. With no funding and a $40 budget, Daymond had to come up with out-of-the box ways to promote his products. Luckily, desperation breeds innovation, and so he hatched an idea for a creative campaign that eventually launched the FUBU brand into a $6 billion dollar global phenomenon.  But it might not have happened if he hadn’t started out broke – with nothing but a heart full of hope and a ferocious drive to succeed by any means possible.” ~Amazon.com

“Here, the FUBU founder and star of ABC’s Shark Tank shows that, far from being a liability, broke can actually be your greatest competitive advantage as an entrepreneur. Why?  Because starting a business from broke forces you to think more creatively.  It forces you to use your resources more efficiently. It forces you to connect with your customers more authentically, and market your ideas more imaginatively. It forces you to be true to yourself, stay laser focused on your goals, and come up with those innovative solutions required to make a meaningful mark.” ~Amazon.com

Finally, I am reading a Scholastic book with my daughter, “Hold Fast.” as we have our Mommy & Daughter Book Club. So far, this is a well written book that makes us pay close attention because, if we don’t we will most certainly miss out. And, if you know me, I will not miss out on any account of my own.

So, tell me in the comments what books have you read lately?

Move forward in Righteousness XOXO♥

I love to read, I am going to try Left For Dead. That one sounds really good. One of my all time summer favorite reads is Redeeming Love my Francis Rivers. I keep going back to that one. Thanks for the recommendations.
